Wheels Down In Talkeetna

We awoke at 130 a.m. this morning after sleeping under the stars at camp 1 and started down the lower Kahiltna by 330 a.m. After 5 1/2 hours of descending through the glacier field where everyone punched through with a leg at least once; where a number of us had sleds fall through; and where one team member,Ryan, fell in over his head and had to be pulled out, we arrived at base camp around 9:00 a.m. The weather was socked in and it didn’t look good to flying out. Then around 6:00 p.m. the only plane of the day came and plucked us off the mountain. After 18 days and 20,320 feet later we are back in Talkeetna. Now it’s time for phone calls to family, showers and beer. More updates to come!
